his heart was filled with compassion. Lk 10:33

Compassion Recommended

Answering to the chain of questions, “What must I do to receive eternal life?” (Lk 10:25) and “Who is my neighbour?” (Lk 10:29), Jesus responded with the parable of compassion. The children of God who share the nature of Him, must develop a beautiful attitude of compassion to the suffering ones - the abandoned, neglected, lonely, or ostracized, and the victims of all kinds - “You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate” (Lk 6:36). The scale of measurement at the final judgement probably would not be about our theoretical understanding of dogmas, or scholarly expertise of scriptures, or compendium of writings, but the real acts of kindness extended to those in real need, “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’” (Mt 25:40). “You go, then, and do the same.” (Lk 10:37) was the definite answer of Jesus, and hence,  compassion is demanded, recommended and appreciated. Let our hearts be filled with compassion always and let that compassion be shown in our actions.

Abba, we are grateful for Your constant compassion. Let your Spirit fill our hearts with compassion, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
