And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church. Mt 16:18

New Assignment

An ordinary fisherman had the privilege of an invitation from Jesus, the Messiah, to become a fisher of men - a new assignment - “And Jesus said to Simon, ‘Fear not; from now on you will be catching men” (Lk 5:10). After a couple of years of being with the Master, he was installed to be the caretaker of the flock which Jesus Himself wanted to shepherd, “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church” (Mt 16:18). Even after getting a new name and a new commission, Peter failed Him thrice; yet, Jesus’ love for him extended forgiveness and restored the new assignment he should take up to, “After they had eaten, Jesus said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me more than these others do?’ ’Yes, Lord,’ he answered, ‘you know that I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Take care of my lambs.’ A second time Jesus said to him, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me?’ ‘Yes, Lord,’ he answered, ‘you know that I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Take care of my sheep.’ A third time Jesus said, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me?’ Peter became sad because Jesus asked him the third time, ‘Do you love me?’ and so he said to him, ‘Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you!’ Jesus said to him, ‘Take care of my sheep.’” (Jn 21:15-18).  After the breakfast, Jesus reinstates Peter with the new assignment that’s been destined for him. Let’s believe in the destined plan of God for each one of us, and exercise and enjoy the privileged mission that comes along with that.

Abba, we praise You for creating each one with a definite purpose. Let your Spirit enlighten us to tread the destined path, in Jesus’ powerful name, Amen.
