For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. 2 Tim 1:7

Courage Recommended

As we share the Spirit of God who is Almighty and Omnipotent, Paul recommends us to take courage, “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline” (2 Tim 1:7). Feeling and trusting the presence of God, only, can alleviate fear that robs of the joy that is our due, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Is 41:10). Situations in life might shake our faith but our strength develops as we speak out like David, “When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul” (Ps 94:19). Even extreme situations could not melt the mountain of faith; hence, he could sing, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me” (Ps 23:4). The greatest military commander ever recorded in the history of mankind, Joshua, also needed the recommendation of courage, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Jos 1:9). Let our minds and ears be filled with the voice of courage that echoes eternally, for “Immediately he spoke to them and said, ‘Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid’” (Mk 6:50). Speak out the promises of God, and be drained of any fear.

Abba, thank you for giving us the spirit of courage. Let your Spirit strengthen us everyday, in Jesus’ powerful name, Amen.
