If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. 2 Thes 3:10

Labor Law

The Creator gave a new law to the mankind when they disobeyed and lost the privilege to remain in the Garden, “You will have to work hard all your life to make it produce enough food for you” (Gen 3:17). Labor was the law that is assigned for survival and sustenance of the mankind’s well-being on earth. Christ also kept an eye on the fishermen who were willing and prepared to work, “Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets. Jesus called them” (Mt 4:21). The commission to proclaim the Gospel and the Kingdom was entrusted with the fishermen who were set to work with passion and courage, for fishing in that age needed skill and perseverance. Paul goes one step further by condemning those who would not abide by the law of labor provided by the Creator, “For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living” (2 Thes 3:10-12). No labor is higher and no labor is lower: let’s utilize the talent God has given us and invest them in meaningful labor and enjoy living for oneself and for the family.

Abba, thank you for enabling us with strength and skill. Let your Spirit help us labor and praise you, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
