There is more happiness in giving than in receiving. Acts 20:35

Generous Giving

An attitude, as we share His divine image, should be that of giving and giving generously. Enlightened by contemplation and revelation, Paul, out of his own experience, is sharing with us a wisdom he received from Christ, “There is more happiness in giving than in receiving” (Acts 20:35). The quality of giving is also measured against our true intention of giving; hence, Paul is writing to his audience in Corinth, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Cor 9:7). Christ, too, assured the scale of blessing we might inherit in proportion to our generous giving, “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full--pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back” (Lk 6:38). Let’s take opportunities to give in good measure that we may receive great blessings, for there are our families and friends, our neighbours and strangers, who are in demand of our time, knowledge, and wealth.

Abba, thank You for giving us life and everything. Let your Spirit help us share and remain multiplied, in Jesus’ Most Holy Name, Amen.
