And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.” Lk 22:15

Food Needs Sharing

There is only one instance in the Bible that says Jesus had a great desire, which involved the teaching He wanted to leave behind for His believers to practice and continue, that is sharing of food. “And he said to them, ‘I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.’” (Lk 22:15). The miracle that astonished the crowd and His disciples, was one of highlighting the sharing attitude of a small boy who exhibited generosity against his age and accepted selfishness. “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?” (Jn 6:9). After resurrection, Jesus gave the privileged apparition to the two men, who sincerely were concerned about Christ and His teachings, even while they did not know they were taking their Master into their home, but generously invited and shared their bread, and got revealed and received the reward for following the original teaching, “food needs sharing”: “When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight” (Lk 24:30-31). Let’s take efforts to look for the needy, as they are all around us, and serve them food.

Abba, thank you for providing us every day. Let your Spirit remind us of the duty towards our fellow brethren, in Jesus’ Most Holy Name, Amen.
