Then Peter spoke up. “Lord, if it is really you, order me to come out on the water to you.” Mt 14:28

Focus on Him

The unabandoning love of Christ, followed the disciples when they were alone and on their own, even that they could not recognise, for they were troubled by the fear of tossing air. The team captain Peter threw away his fear, when he wanted to test, if it was his Master who has come to help, so he asked for a miracle by requesting a walk on the water: “Then Peter spoke up. ‘Lord, if it is really you, order me to come out on the water to you.’” (Mt 14:28). An instant answer proceeded from the mouth of Christ, “‘Come!’ answered Jesus. So Peter got out of the boat and started walking on the water to Jesus. But when he noticed the strong wind, he was afraid and started to sink down in the water. ‘Save me, Lord!’ he cried” (Mt 14:29-30). As long as he was keeping his focus on Him, he could do the impossible, but when he got distracted by the sound of the strong wind, he almost got drowned; but Christ held his hand and strengthened his faith: “At once Jesus reached out and grabbed hold of him and said, ‘What little faith you have! Why did you doubt?’ They both got into the boat, and the wind died down” (Mt 14:31-32). Let’s learn the lesson from this episode, and never be distracted by any fear, for His love is permanent.

Abba, thank You for holding our hands unceasingly. Let Your Spirit give us faith, for we are Your children, in Jesus’ Most Holy Name, Amen.
