Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. Ps 141:3

Begin the Day with the Good Word

One of the beautiful prayers that was composed by David, the Psalmist, towards the advantage of mankind, is highlighted in today’s reflection, “Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips” (Ps 141:3). The wisest Solomon confirms this, and adds an additional health benefit, “Pleasant words [are as] an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones” (Prov 16:24). It is astonishing that David has comprehended the importance of words on the mouth; hence, he composed a hymn with these lyrics: “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer” (Ps 19:14). Let’s praise God, for He has given days to worship Him and use good words.
