Follow justice and justice alone, so that you may live. Deut 16:20

He Desires Justice

After liberating the Israelites from the oppressive rulers of Egypt, God instructed, through His servant Moses, the norms that should guide their lives: “Follow justice and justice alone, so that you may live and possess the land the LORD your God is giving you” (Deut 16:20). Down the centuries, His own prophets repeatedly reminded that justice is not only expected of us, but remains as His own desire: “He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8). The abundance and natural flow of life-giving rivers is the imagery used to invoke passion for enjoying justice and releasing it towards those in need, as Prophet Amos got revealed: “But let justice roll on like many waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing river” (Amos 5:24). Let our hearts and lives be filled with God’s desirous flow of justice.

Abba, thank You for leading us into Your way of justice. Let Your Spirit keep our actions motivated by justice to those in need. In Jesus’ Most Just Name, Amen.
