As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Acts 13:2

Appointed by Him

Living in an age of democracy, church also adopts worldly methods to select and send ministers unto God’s field. But the scriptures have any number of records of God calling people and sending to His desired destinations according to His will. The prerogative of selecting His own servants belongs to Him, and Him alone, and it is interesting to see how the Holy Spirit Himself comes and sets aside whom He needs, as recorded in the Book of Acts: “As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’” (Acts 13:2). When the believers wait on God, trusting His guidance, they surrender to His choice by prayer and fasting: “Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away” (Acts 13:3). The active role of the Holy Spirit brings abundant grace and leading that are necessary and vital for any mission: “So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus” (Acts 13:4). May we continue to enjoy His appointed servants leading His flock, the way He desires.

Abba, thank You for choosing people for Your mission as you desire. Let Your Spirit confirm us and lead us to whom we should follow, as flocks of Yours. In Jesus’ Most Precious Name, Amen.
