Singleness of Heart

Big corporates get merged and become bigger, the political parties align together and make a coalition to rule the nation, but it is truly saddening that God’s people get divided over disputes and difference of opinions, and remain separate and scandalous. The singleness of heart was the foundation of the early church, as recorded in the Book of Acts: “These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren” (Acts 1:14). The mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit came upon them, when they were truly united: “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place” (Acts 2:1). The church got developed qualitatively and in quantity when they were keeping the condition of being in one accord: “And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved” (Acts 2:46-47). May we truly desire for the singleness of heart, and remain one accord as witnesses of the Triune God.

Abba, thank You for setting before us the single-heartedness of the early church. Let Your Spirit bind us all to be in one accord, in Jesus’ Most Powerful Name, Amen.
