O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. Ps 51:15

Sacrifice of Praise

The best way to begin the day is clearly expressed in the prayer of David, the psalmist: “O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise” (Ps 51:15). The children of God, who are His elects and royal priesthood, have the primary duty of offering the sacrifice of praise, for that delights God who also inhabits in the praises of His people. The author of the Book of Hebrews invites us to be faithful in the duty, and writes, “Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name” (Heb 13:15). Gospels also have recorded the example of God’s own Son, Jesus, praising His Father generously: “At that same time Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit, and he said, ‘O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way.’” (Lk 10:21). Let’s grab each and every opportunity to fulfil the duty of offering the sacrifice of praise, that is His due.

Abba, thank You for accepting our sacrifices of praise. Let Your Spirit make us rejoice as we declare Your praises, in Jesus’ Most Glorious Name, Amen.
