Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit. Eph 5:18

The Spirit-filled Life

What we eat and what we drink have consequences in the body and our lives, hence, to enjoy a healthy Christian life, Paul encourages us to be filled by the Holy Spirit: “Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit” (Eph 5:18). Then what proceeds further is, first, the great joy that is expressed in singing: “singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts” (Eph 5:19), and then, gratitude for everything we receive from the benevolence of Christ: “And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Eph 5:20). And still further, the humble love that flows and attracts fellow believers to be a witnessing communion: “Be subject to one another in the love of The Messiah” (Eph 5:21). Let’s thirst for more of His Spirit that we may abound in joy, gratitude, and humble love.

Abba, thank You for providing us with the unlimited supply of the Water of the Spirit. Let Your Spirit fill us and keep us satisfied, in Jesus’ Most Wonderful Name, Amen.
