Mortify your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Col 3:5

The Modern-day Idolatry

Certain denominations condemn others as practicing idolatry, but they conveniently hide their modern-day practice of idolatry, that is warned by Apostle Paul: “Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry” (Col 3:5). Jesus our Master and Messiah has set an example by His life, and taught with authority against the worship of money: “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money” (Mt 6:24). The root of the tree determines the fruits it bears, and hence we give heed to Paul who warns of the worshippers of money: “For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows” (1 Tim 6:10). Just because it is practiced by many, it will not be exempted from the list of greatest sins. May we be aware of the practice of modern-day idolatry and be away from being condemned as victims.

Abba, Thank You for enlightening us of the modern form of idolatry. Let Your Spirit guard us so that we will not be its practitioners or perpetuators. In Jesus’ Most Powerful Name, Amen.
