At last he came to his senses and said, ‘All my father’s hired workers have more than they can eat, and here I am about to starve!’ Lk 15:17

Coming to Senses

Desiring to be totally independent; dividing the property before its time came; and hastily selling it and leaving the family; being in a new city with false friends; and extravagant spending led the son of a rich man into the farm of pigs. Only after being there in a most uncomfortable situation, he realised where life has brought him for the continuous decisions he had made. This is the very first step to conversion and to a new life. That is why it is very important in our lives to come to senses about our true identity, as the younger son did: “At last he came to his senses and said, ‘All my father’s hired workers have more than they can eat, and here I am about to starve! I will get up and go to my father and say, “Father, I have sinned against God and against you. I am no longer fit to be called your son; treat me as one of your hired workers.”’ So he got up and started back to his father.” (Lk 15:18-19). May we not waste our lives by being away from the loving Father but realise as early as possible, and return to Him, because He is ready to forgive and blesses us with a new life.

Abba, thank You so much for making us to come to senses. Let Your Spirit convince us of the necessity to return home to be with the Father, in Jesus’ Most Loving Name, Amen.
