But as for me, how wonderful to be near God, to find protection with the Sovereign Lord and to proclaim all that he has done! Ps 73:28

Be Near Him

When we are still children, we enjoy the nearness of parents and we love to be around them. But the moment we realize that we have grown and are mature, we tend to stay away and distance ourselves from them, insisting upon our own privacy and independence. In spiritual life, this attitude doesn’t bring any benefit to us, for we are always and ever His children, who need to depend upon Him for our benefit and progress. David knew this from his experience of being a shepherd, how important it is for the sheep to be close to him or at least be in his sight. That is why he compares himself as a sheep in need of being near to God for his provisions and protections, hence he sings: “But as for me, how wonderful to be near God, to find protection with the Sovereign Lord and to proclaim all that he has done!” (Ps 73:28). May we sincerely desire to be near Him, and enjoy His presence and company, for a blessed and happy life.

Abba, thank You for allowing us to be near You. Let Your Spirit constantly bring us back to You whenever we stay away from You, in Jesus’ Most Protecting Name, Amen.
