So the man named all the birds and all the animals; but not one of them was a suitable companion to help him. Gen 2:20

The Best Companion

We see in the world any number of people struggling with loneliness. The culture of the modern world keeps people as islands, even though they live right next door to each other. Yet, it is almost an imperative that we can only find fulfilment and meaning in the nearness and fellowship of each other. The very first man created by God was not satisfied with the entire creation, as recorded in the bible: “So the man named all the birds and all the animals; but not one of them was a suitable companion to help him” (Gen 2:20). May we never be carried away by taking pets or fanciful objects that the market is trying to place before us. Instead, let us look for the true company and fellowship of human beings.

Abba, thank You so much for giving us people to share our lives with. Let Your Spirit remind us to appreciate and celebrate the company of others, in Jesus’ Most Loving Name, Amen.
