I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. Jn 15:15

Invitation to Friendship

A person’s designation determines the attitude towards the job entrusted with that title. Invariably everyone who renders the service to the kingdom of God calls himself a servant. But Jesus intended a closer relationship than that of master and servant, with His apostles, that is the life-giving friendship. There is a greater significance in calling someone a friend and entrusting him with the highest secrets and responsibility. That is why we need to understand the invitation that is set before anyone who is willing to take up the task of the Kingdom to be in the relationship of friendship, as Jesus clearly tells: “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” (Jn 15:15). May we enjoy more of the friendship of Jesus and then serve Him, not as servants but as friends who is ready to sacrifice time and life for the mission that we share with Him.

Abba, thank You for Your Son’s invitation to friendship. Let Your Spirit make us cherish this life-giving friendship. In Jesus’ Most Loving Name, Amen.
