The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. 1 Jn 2:17

Desire the Eternal

Children do not know the difference between temporal and eternal, or material and spiritual. But as adults we need to realize the difference between the two, that would change our worldview and attachment toward worldly things. The law of gravity is accepted worldwide and things of the world are controlled by this force, but there are exceptions like airplanes and rockets that use another force and prove the incapacity of the earth’s attraction. This is true in the spiritual realm as well. The major cause for the most of the evil result from the attachment of human beings to the world and its passions. These fade away in time, and hence John cautions us saying: “The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” (1 Jn 2:17) Jesus also revealed this mystery of spiritual gravity that impels people to be driven by the power of His Spirit and to be different and become witnesses to His teaching in this world: “If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.” (Jn 15:19) May we be driven by the desire for the eternal, and overcome the passions of the world, and set new norms and ways toward the world as we live here on earth, for that would be our good destiny pleasing to the Creator.

Abba, Thank You for inviting us to desire the eternal and the spiritual. Let Your Spirit guard us from the attractions of this world and set us free to serve You in complete surrender, In Jesus’ Most Powerful Name, Amen.
