As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Eph 4:1

The Vocation Received

In the created universe, everything and every living creature, including human beings, has been given a nature and function according to the calling. The sun, the moon, stars, the earth, the sea, or plants and all living creatures, have a definite nature and a path to follow as well as an assigned duty and the rule to follow. In the same way, among the millions of human beings, only few are chosen and given the vocation to become examples for life that God’s children are supposed to live, so that others may see, admire and follow. Anyone who considers his vocation to be a Christian as something very important and serious, has to know and practice his vocation because it has serious ramifications on his immediate family, neighborhood and society at large. Hence Paul urges believers to take note of their important vocation: “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” (Eph 4:1) Human beings are by and large imitative in nature, and that is why we need role models in our families, and that would have positive influences. For example, while writing about the vacation of the elderly, Paul gives a list of natures to be exhibited in their lives: “Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.” (Tit 2:2) May God give us the grace to spread the light of His Kingdom according to the responsibility and vocation we have received to be a good influence.

Abba, Thank You for reminding us of the vacation that we have received. Let Your Spirit teach us and lead us in the way we should live, fulfilling God’s purpose, In Jesus’ Most Powerful Name, Amen.
