But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king’s choice food or with the wine which he drank. Dan 1:8

Firmness of Purpose

The conviction that we hold deep in our hearts, certainly gets expressed in the words, gestures and actions that proceed from us. Determination, conviction and purposefulness should be our priority that we never compromise in any situation, and they mark the man of faith. Deportation and slavery did not make Daniel’s firm faith sway, shake or flicker; hence, he explained his need very clearly to the commander who had charge over him without any fear: “But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king’s choice food or with the wine which he drank; so he sought permission from the commander of the officials that he might not defile himself.” (Dan 1:8) When we stand up for the God-given principles, however small they may be, we receive God’s assistance and favor that we need the most: “Now God granted Daniel favor and compassion in the sight of the commander of the officials.” (Dan 1:9) Our conviction that is expressed in favor of the faith pleases God, and makes Him open further the doors of opportunity and blessing to exalt us to install in positions according to His plans: “As for these four youths, God gave them knowledge and intelligence in every branch of literature and wisdom; Daniel even understood all kinds of visions and dreams.” (Dan 1:17) May we stand firm in faith and prepare ourselves to receive from Him the favors of heaven that are far more superior than any of the worldly benefits.

Abba, Thank You for setting before us the firmness of Daniel’s faith and conviction. Let Your Spirit strengthen us to live up to Your expectations, In Jesus’ Most Powerful Name, Amen.
