"go thou to the sea, and cast a hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a shekel. . ." Mt 17: 27

Reward of Obedience

The needs that arise before the life of an individual are , sometimes beyond his capacity to handle, and make him panic or be troubled. Jesus knew the embarrassment of Peter regarding the answer for paying the temple tax, and responded by giving him the course of action he needs to take to handle the situation and settle the issue: “But, lest we cause them to stumble, go thou to the sea, and cast a hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a shekel: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.” (Mt 17:27) The instruction that Peter received as to how he ought to proceed is amazing—Go, Cast, Take, Open, Find, Take and Give. Answers to many of the problems lie in our capacity to pray, listen to the clear command, and follow the order obediently. Mary’s instruction at the wedding at Cana resembles this answer for anyone who needs to witness the needed miracle: “His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.” (Jn 2:5) Obedience has been one of the hardest things for the mankind, right from the first parents. But Jesus, the Son of God, came in person and exhibited for the mankind the perfect obedience, that cost His life, that saved the human race eternally. An army cannot win the battle, and the family cannot run without practicing this virtue of obedience.  May we humble ourselves and walk in the path of meekness and obedience, enjoying the favours of heavenly provisions.

Abba, Thank You so much for instructing us to be obedient. Let Your Spirit lead us in the path of humility and obedience, and obtain miraculous favors from You, In Jesus’ Most Wonderful Name, Amen.
