O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who delight to fear thy name. Neh 1:11

Let Prayer Precede

There may be a thousand activities that we do to please God or to execute our desire in building His community, but nothing should take the place of prayer that needs to precede. A simple look at the life of any of God’s servants, or His own Son would reveal this truth that prayer alone should take precedence. The desire for building the walls of Jerusalem was so deep, and he wanted to take leave from his fortunate position in the palace; yet Nehemiah went and extended his prayers with fasting before the God of heaven;: “O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who delight to fear thy name; and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. Now I was cupbearer to the king.” (Neh 1:11) It is not our desire, planing, preparation or sacrifice that take precedence; but prayer that consults God’s desire, that receives His approval, and is guided by His Spirit that makes us true believers depending on God’s wisdom and plan. May we cultivate the habit of keeping prayer before all our actions that we may be guided and supported by His power and counsel that leads to success.

Abba, Thank You for inspiring us to pray before taking any action. Let Your Spirit bring us to Your presence to be guided and blessed by You, In Jesus’ Most Powerful Name, Amen.
