Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and songs inspired by the Spirit; singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. Eph 5:19

Singing Is Essential

One of the gifts that He has showered on human beings is the capacity for songs. Writing lyrics, composing music and singing are the rarest endowment of the human race. Hearing songs amuses the child right from mother’s womb, scientists say. Singing is an essential part of human life and there are songs for every occasions. To lift our soul and spirit to worship, to make us feel the presence of God, to extend our gratitude or express our joy, to comfort the afflicted, to heal and strengthen, and to relieve ourselves of pain and agony, there are hymns. David poured out his heart in all occasions and they serve the purpose of singing in all our needs; hence, let’s sing generously as inspired by Paul: “Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and songs inspired by the Spirit; singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” (Eph 5:19) Tearing of the clothes, beating that laid stripes on the body, imprisonment in the inner prison, and feet fastened in the stocks — nothing could stop Paul from letting his voice lift another melody unto God: “And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.” (Acts 16:25) May we cultivate the habit of singing, that lifts our spirit and releases us into praise, worship and adoration, that captures us in the cave of comfort and peace.

Abba, thank You for the gift of singing. Let Your Spirit inspire us to sing and benefit from the practice of immersing our souls into inspired songs, In Jesus’ Most Wonderful Name, Amen.
