“... for all who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted.” Lk 18:14

Humility Is Healthy

Allowing oneself to be scanned by a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) makes one find the detailed condition of his health. Every time we approach the presence of God, we are revealed of the true health status of our soul and spirit, for the power of His word can penetrate the impenetrable part of our core being: “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Heb 4:12) The self-asserted report by the pharisee read something like this: ‘not swindler, not unjust, not adulterer, not like the tax-collector, fasting twice, paying tithes and perfect.’ But the report from the all-seeing eyes of God was entirely different and shocking: “I tell you, this man went down to his home justified rather than the other; for all who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted.” (Lk 18:14) God approved the man, who admitted his sinfulness and expressed his sorrow, as healthy in spirit and soul. May we learn to be true to  ourselves, being humble enough to admit our sinfulness so that we may get the approval from the Creator.

Abba, thank you for your readiness to accept us, sinners, and forgiving us by Your Cleansing Mercy. Let Your Spirit make us humble before You by enabling us to be ready to accept our sinfulness and look for mercy, In Jesus’ Most Merciful Name, Amen.
