“so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you. . .” Eph 1:18

Hearts Be Enlightened

Not everyone has eyes to see all that are around him, for our visions are limited and clouded by emotions that we undergo in our lives. One of the important skills that we need to develop is extending the limits of our vision’s horizon. Seeing the things that others can see does not make one better than others, but seeing beyond with the tool of faith, makes one see greatest things that are only possible with the eyes of the heart. Paul—who had his physical sight lost and restored in his encounter with God, who also got his ‘eye of the heart’ opened and enlightened— desires that we too have such advantageous vision: “so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints.” (Eph 1:18) The disciples, who met the Risen Lord on the way to Emmaus, who initially could not see Him, got their ‘eyes of the heart’ enlightened and saw things differently: “But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him…Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight.” (Lk 24:16,31) May we sincerely desire that God enable us to have the ‘eyes of the heart’ opened and enlightened, to see all that He has kept for us and praise Him.

Abba, Thank You for giving us the gift of the ‘eyes of the heart’ that perceives what the world cannot see. Let Your Spirit enlighten us to enhance the horizons of visions extended beyond the temporal sight, In Jesus’ Wonderful name, Amen.
