"so that you may announce the praises” of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Pet 2:9

Emissaries of His

Any special vocation involves great responsibility, other than the power, prestige and dignity involved with the assignment. It may be fitting that we are truly proud of our God-given vocation to be His emissaries, as Peter highlights: “But you are ‘a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may announce the praises’ of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Pet 2:9) But the second letter follows and alerts us to be mindful of the obligations involved in exercising our loyalty to the One who has commissioned: “Live an exemplary life among the natives so that your actions will refute their prejudices. Then they’ll be won over to God’s side and be there to join in the celebration when he arrives.” (2 Pet 2:12) May we strive hard to exercise the duty of announcing the praises of God, who redeemed us from the bondage of darkness, and display His kingdom traits especially among the unbelieving neighbours who live around us.

Abba, Thank you for appointing us emissaries of Your Kingdom. Let Your Spirit instill in us the conduct worthy of our calling, In Jesus’ Most Honourable Name, Amen.
