“My Father! If it is possible, let this cup be taken away from me. But I want your will, not mine.” Mt 26:39

Doing His Will

Knowing the will of God and adhering to it, is the real challenge the believer has as a follower of Jesus. The prayer that Jesus taught prioritizes doing the will of the Father above every other thing we are in need: “Your kingdom come.Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” (Mt 6:10) As He was here on earth, doing the mission His Father entrusted with Him, Jesus Himself faced agonizing moments and poured out His heart in prayer, all the suffering and pain that were unbearable. Yet, He chose the will of the Father over His: “He went forward a little, and fell face downward on the ground, and prayed, ‘My Father! If it is possible, let this cup be taken away from me. But I want your will, not mine.’” (Mt 26:39) Need a share in His kingdom, desire a right in His family; then, choose the will of the Father as the Only Way, as preached by Jesus: “For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” (Mt 12:50) May we strive hard to live a life that hails and honors His will, and be acceptable to Him to receive the reward of crown and honor.

Abba, Thank You for inviting us to do Your Will. Let Your Holy Spirit make us surrender our desire and will in view of doing Your will, In Jesus’ Most Wonderful Name, Amen.
