When his brothers realized that their father loved him more than them, they grew to hate him. Gen 37:4

Learn to Overlook

Being consumed by the divine love and purpose, does not guarantee the peace of mind one yearns to enjoy. Even though Joseph did not intend to harm his brothers in any way, his father’s excessive love and gift of technicolour coat, caused envy and made them hate him: “Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons because he was the child of his old age. And he made him an elaborately embroidered coat. When his brothers realized that their father loved him more than them, they grew to hate him—they wouldn’t even speak to him.” (Gen 37:3-4) Our special position and vocation can bring about inconveniences beyond our imaginations, which we need to choose to neglect and overlook, following the example of Joseph. Every time the presence of an unwanted arrow of hatred approaches you, remind yourself of the privilege of the Father’s special love and choicest gift He provided you, and smile yourself into acknowledging your blessedness. May we learn to shift our focus beyond the unwanted influences in life, and practice overlooking the negativity that attempts to steal away the savoring of our giftedness, and praise God sufficiently.

Abba, Thank You for the abundance of love You have for us. Let Your Spirit make us stay calm, focused on the gifts we have been provided, and cultivate the habit of unending praise amidst everything. In Jesus’ Most Loving Name, Amen.
