Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances. . . 1 Thes 5:16-18

Keep Yourself Occupied

While many claim that they are extremely busy, there are some who have the luxury of leisure, who need to be careful spending of the most valuable commodity in their life—time. Spending of time in unnecessary things can also be considered a sin, for it is the very time that other people are struggling to have for their precious family, friends, and community. The time that we do not utilize can be the moment that our enemy operates against our own promotion and stride of success. Paul immediately comes up with this formula that kept himself occupied and guaranteed his advancement toward the kingdom-mission: “Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” (1 Thes 5:16-18) When you are serving in the army of God, one of the chief tactics of the enemy is to steal your time by distracting and diverting you into unwanted occupation. The psalmist has his own suggestion that provides ambience for development and growth in our spiritual wellbeing: “Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.” (Ps 1:1-2) May we well guard our time and life that God generously provides, and capitalize the provision of the gift called time.

Abba, Thank You for your generous supply of precious time. Let Your Spirit guide us so that we may wisely employ the time that we are enriched with, In Jesus’ Most Powerful Name, Amen.
