Open mine eyes, that I may see the wonders of thy Law. Psalm 119:18

Open mine eyes

Open mine eyes, that I may see the wonders of thy Law.

Psalm 119:18

Open mine eyes

The greatest of gifts that God has given us, are the eyes that we possess, which enables us to enjoy the beauty of His creation and that of our beloved things and people.

But here, I believe, the Psalmist is not talking about physical eye. He is talking about the enlightenment. People who know and understand English will not be able to understand bible, because it is written in a language that is understood only by a believe. It’s like a secret code, it is revealed only to those persons who believe in the treasure of the Word of God.

On the way to Emmaus: after resurrection Jesus was traveling with two disciples, and He was explaining about Himself being referred in the Old Testament, and broke bread with them and shared. And that’s when they got their eyes open even otherwise, but they were not able to see that it was Jesus walking along with them, or sitting along with them, dining with them.

The eye of the mind, the eye of the soul, …the eye of the spirit has to be opened.

Some people even though they have very clear eyes, no necessity for wearing any glasses, because their vision is very clear. Yet, the spiritual eye is tampered, because of their lack of faith, humility, surrender towards the Word of God.

The Psalmist is saying, “Open my eyes, that I may see the wonders of thy Law.”

God’s Law is wonderful.

It is that Law that constituted the entire universe, all the creation that we see and cannot see…the galaxy and the milky way, whatever you call it.

Even your own being and all the species on earth, it is all combined because of a Law.

There is a Law.

Several scientists gave their own names of the Law, the law of gravity, and so on.

So, there are unimaginable amount of wonderful laws at work. Only a person who has an eye of faith will be able to see.  Prophets, the believers and the chosen ones will be able to see the events that unfold everyday, with the eye of faith, if they have one. May we ask God to open that eyes that we will be able to see the way God wants us to see.

Abba, Father, Thank You for providing us with the eyes. Help us see what we need to see. Let us see our failures, let us see Your grace and forgiveness, let us see the salvation that is at work, and the wonders of thy Law, with the help of Your Holy Spirit,  In Jesus’ Most Powerful Name, Amen.
